Program note
Poema showcases the lyricism possible in violin playing. Violin was my first instrument, and perhaps because I became a pianist I have always had a place in my heart for it.
The piece creates a gentle yet expressive dialogue between soloist and orchestra, and culminates on the highest note in Tchaikovsky’s violin concerto: the highest A possible on the instrument.
