Ojáncanu (for string quartet)
String quartet · 5 minutes · 2019
Premiere
JACK Quartet; Boston, MA (October 30, 2019)
Program note
When I was little, we used to visit grandma at Santander, Cantabria. My mother used to tell us bed stories about a creature called the Ojáncanu, a cruel cyclops found in Cantabrian mythology. They are ten feet tall and have superhuman strength, with ten fingers on each hand.
However, there was also another creature, a tall and kind being that played a long flute, who protected us from any danger in the middle of the forest. I was no longer afraid of the dark.
